Military Service Disability

Tens of thousands of military personnel sustain service-related disabilities each year. Disabilities can be sustained while performing practice drills or in actual combat. Times of war have greatly increased the number of soldiers who are coming home with military service disabilities. Many of these soldiers will not be able to perform any kind of meaningful work again. They and their families deserve compensation. To this end, the Department of Veterans Affairs was created. However, being entitled to disability benefits and actually getting the Department of Veterans Affairs to approve them are two entirely different matters.

The Department of Veterans Affairs wants to help former soldiers, but it also wants to make sure those benefits are absolutely necessary to the applicant’s livelihood. It must be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the former soldier is completely disabled (or partially disabled, depending on the claim). This can mean multiple trips to government doctors to obtain the necessary documentation. It could also mean a long, drawn-out investigation process before benefits are approved. In a large number of cases, the initial application is denied, which then makes an appeal necessary.

Anyone With a Military Service Disability Needs a Lawyer

Having a lawyer can be an enormous help in applying for military service disability benefits. Lawyers who specialize in this area know the application requirements and the laws surrounding them inside and out. If an appeal is necessary, lawyers handle it all, and have a good track record at getting denied applications approved.
