Disabled Veterans

Millions of disabled veterans rely on disability benefits from the federal government in order to survive in today’s economy. However, getting benefits is not automatic just because someone is a disabled American veteran. There is a long, complex application process that must be undertaken, and not every veteran gets it right the first time. That is why so many initial applications are denied. Those who have denied applications can either go back to the beginning and try again from scratch or take their case to the board of appeals for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Before legislation was passed that allowed disabled veterans to hire lawyers to represent them, someone with a denied disability claim would have to prepare a case and present it to the appeals board alone. This was often quite a daunting prospect, especially if the person had no prior legal training or public speaking experience. Fortunately, times have changed, and now attorneys are welcome to represent disabled veterans at every phase of the claims process, including preparing the initial application.

Many disabled veterans now choose to hire lawyers to assist them in preparing their initial applications, because it takes so much of the guesswork out to have a professional oversee the process. When an attorney is guiding the application, it is far more likely that it will be just what the Department of Veterans Affairs wants to see, leading to quick approval.
